Microsoft shutting down Shadowrun forums. Handing shadowrun.com off to next Shadowrun product dev.

Kimona (former community manager for FASA) posted a note on the shadowrun.com forums today announcing that the forums are shutting down soon. Additionally she said that shadowrun.com will be handed over to the people working on the next Shadowrun product.

Did you hear that? The “next Shadowrun product”. Sweet!

We know the Shadowrun IP has been sold to a former FASA founder. We can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

We’re going to be closing down the Shadowrun forums in about two weeks. As many of you know, the old FASA crew has mostly moved on to other roles within Microsoft, and that means we don’t have enough people to monitor and respond to posts here for the coming year. We’ll eventually close down www.shadowrun.com and transition it to the folks working on the next generation of Shadowrun products.

For those wanting to continue discussing the game, check the Shadowrun forums on Xbox.com, or feel free to suggest new meet-up places in the forums here before we wrap up the show. Thanks to everyone who’s made the Shadowrun community one of the best in which I’ve ever had the pleasure of participating.

Final Boss wins MLG Chicago Shadowrun tournament. Watch the video.

Major League Gaming headed to Chicago and Final Boss won the first major Shadowrun LAN competition this past weekend. Registration sold out for the Shadowrun event in less than a minute. Only 16 teams were allowed to attend. The tournament took place over the course of two days with mainly Attrition gametypes being played.

Final Boss is comprised of two of the world’s best HALO 2 players in Walshy and OGRE 2. They are joined by OneEye and tournament MVP and former FASA developer eXt. The skill level of Final Boss is already beyond that of the nearest competition. While Shadowrun is a lot like a game of baseball in which any team can win, the pace at which team work and strategy evolves will determine who will shine at MLG. This team will single-handedly affect the culture of Shadowrun gameplay.

Go here to watch a replay of the championship finals with Final Boss versus PURE

Results from the tournament:

Shadowrun Pros:
Shoot to Kill

Secret Weapon

Shadowrun Semi-Pros:

Stuff we all get…if you loved them hard enough

The folks at FASA know how to run a beta test. It was by far the best beta experience any of us have had. The beta program was organized and the beta community was full of responsible and mature people. It kind of spoiled me. And so did FASA:

Top 10 reasons why Shadowrun Vista is dying

I’ll do some research and report on Shadowrun Vista’s numbers in a later post, but for now have a look at Surestryke’s list of “Top 10 reasons Vista players are leaving.” Regardless of how all of your KBM fanboys feel, this list is pretty funny:

10:) PC gamers already play other FPS games online FOR FREE. Imagine that!
9:) If we wanted to play a *** with horns under a tree with a sword we’d have stayed in WoW.
8.) If we wanted to see flying elves with blades we’d watch Peter Pan.
7:) Vista OS requirements = new hardware upgrades
6:) SR game requirements = even more hardware upgrades
5:) If we wanted to listen to whiney, punk pre-pub emos we’d hang out with our kids more.
4.) Visual C++ Library crashes FTW!
3.) End of every match chanting: “I got a new achievement.. d000d whos on Vista?”
2.) Quickcast disadvantage
1.) Being asked for friendship a dozen times per hour just so someone can TK and res you.

MLG adding online 6-v-6 Shadowrun tournament

MLG is hosting several Shadowrun tournaments. Currently they are hosting a popular 4-v-4 tournament which will wrap up next week. According to their website, they are going to host an online 6-v-6 in late August. The culture of Shadowrun will greatly change with the 6-v-6 tournaments.

Of course, a lot of eyes are on MLG with their Shadowrun LAN events. They are dishing out thousands of dollars and “pro status” to many teams that win at their events.

Shadowrun exhibition at MLG Dallas

From the news post at MLGpro.com:

MLG and FASA have teamed up to put on a special Shadowrun exhibition competition in Dallas this weekend, featuring a roster of MLG pros and staff members facing off against the very creators of the game, the FASA development team. While the MLG squad was hand picked from the Halo pros who have excelled at Shadowrun since its launch, the FASA dev team has an intimate knowledge of the game and all of its many intricacies. With world class gaming talent clashing against the masterminds of one of the greatest competitive titles in recent times, spectators are certainly in for a treat this weekend in Dallas.

Here’s hoping that this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship between MLG LAN events and $hadowrun.

Oh So Beautiful: Shadowrun. A video tribute to the in-game graphics.

Over at the Hushed Casket, Trigger posted his video tribute to Shadowrun’s graphics. It’s a tour of the environments found in Shadowrun. The camera work is great. The soundtrack makes the movie. From trigger:

This video is intended to showcase my appreciation of the graphics of Shadowrun, but much more than that. I like to see some of the things FASA has put in there like the different posters and things and showcase them here, in this video. There’s lots of cool objects and things in Shadowrun maps, and maybe you’ve missed them because you’re too busy being a ninja.
