Kotaku: the Art of Shadowrun, In Concept, and Conception

Kotaku has a really cool article about the art in Shadowrun. From playing the game, you can tell that a lot of work went into the art for the game. Not only that, but a lot of work went into making sure the art was consistent from map to map.

Go check out the article and interview with Evan Hirsch and Mitch Gitelman from FASA over at Kotaku to learn why Shadowrun looks the way it does.

Totally360.com interviews Mitch

Totally360.com has an interview with Mitch Gitelman.  It’s a well-rounded interview that will provide a lot of information to people not familiar with Shadowrun.  If you are intimate with Shadowrun, then you may not learn anything from the interview as I didn’t spot anything new.

PC and 360 version to have locked framerates

Update:  There was some misinformation concerning the “locked framerates”.  Shadowrun for PC will not have locked framerates.

In the May 2007 issue of Official XBOX Magazine, Shadowrun gets a two-page spread. In it is an interview with Mitch Gitelman regarding the balancing of the console and PC version of this game. Mitch goes so far as to say that even the framerates of the PC version have been locked to match that of the console version.

Interesting. Actually, that’s a little disappointing for me - a PC gamer. I’m assuming the game will be locked at 60 frames per second (surely it won’t be locked at 30 frames per second). While gaming at 60fps will be adequate, most PC gamers like to play at very high framerates which makes for very smooth graphics.

The more I read about the balancing, I’m feeling like my PC gaming experienced is being handicapped to match that of a console-based gaming experience. Still, I haven’t gotten a chance to play Shadowrun on the PC yet. So, this is all speculation.

More on Shadowrun’s cross-platform balancing later. A lot more.

GameSpot Q&A - Final Thoughts

GameSpot sits down with FASA Studio Manager Mitch Gitelman during a new Q&A session. It mostly looks back on the how the project has developed and what is in store for FASA next. Mitch throws a teaser out to the fans of a Shadowrun RPG:

GS: If the game does well, could we expect to see more Shadowrun-related products down the road? For instance, the longtime fans of the franchise would really love to see a Shadowrun role-playing game.

MG: Yeah, I heard somewhere on the Web that longtime fans might want an RPG. We’ll look into that.

He also talks about some of the abilities that were cut from the game.

GS: Is there a feature, weapon, power, or ability that was dropped in development that you wish you could bring back? If so, what was it?

MG: Oh sure, plenty of them. The one I loved the most was the ability to climb walls like Spider-Man. You could still use your weapon while wallcrawling, so we got plenty of spider snipers in places you’d never expect. When combined with glider and teleport, it was insane.

Video interview with Mitch Gitelman: Intro to Shadowrun

CVG is hosting an excellent video for those of you wanting to learn more about Shadowrun. He does a great job explaining the Shadowrun backstory (I’m a tester and I don’t know much about the storyline). He also explains the game and how it’s played with different races, techs, and magic.

This would be a great video to share with your friends to market the game to them. Give it a look.

Really nothing new for those that have been following the game. Still a good resource, though.

IGN interviews Mitch Gitelman

IGN has interviewed Mitch Gitelman, studio manager at FASA Studios. Some cool information about why Shadowrun is what it is.

“We have a party system where you and your friends can stay together from match to match, across both Xbox and PC. Also, at the end of every Shadowrun game you can start the next one with the group you’ve formed, if you find people you like playing with”

Give it a read.
